Why Design Thinking Should Work For You | Estacha Communications
It would be apt to say that design thinking is practiced by all great innovators in various fields. Understanding the designer’s work process can help us find a solution in a new way, in all areas of our lives.
The Design Thinking technique has been quickly adopted by some of the world’s leading brands, such as Apple, Google, Samsung, and GE, and Design Thinking is taught at leading universities around the world. But what is this design thinking and how does it work?
What design thinking is?
Design thinking is a process in which we understand the user, assume the problems that might come up, and find out alternative strategies. It revolves around the core concept of deeply understanding the people, for whom we are creating a product or service. Design thinking helps in the process of questioning, and in tackling problems.
Phases of design thinking
There are many alternatives for design thinking, and most of them are similar and operate on the same principles. They are empathizing with your users, defining your user’s needs, problems, and your perception, finding innovative solutions, to start creating solutions and testing them. Said all this, these don’t need to be sequential, they can be moulded as per need.
The trouble with deep-rooted thinking patterns
Naturally, humans establish thought habits modeled on repeated behaviours and frequently accessed information. These allow us to apply the same behaviours and knowledge quickly in similar or familiar contexts, but they also can prevent us from accessing or improving fresh ways of seeing, understanding, and solving problems quickly and easily.
The Power that storytelling holds
Telling stories will help us inspire possibilities, thoughts, and solutions. Stories are framed around actual individuals and their lives. Stories are important because they are accounts, not general claims, of individual events. They give us concrete information that allows us to envision solutions to specific problems. It helps us to do the right kind of research, test our products and services, to uncover new ways of improving the product, service, or design.
You can come up with creative ideas and solutions by understanding human nature
Thinking about human nature attempts to empathise with human beings. This includes vague or potentially subjective terms such as behavioural emotions, needs, motives, and drivers. In Design Thinking, the essence of creating ideas and solutions means that this approach is generally more sensitive to and involved in the context in which consumers work and the challenges and barriers they may encounter when engaging with a product.
Design Thinking is a design-specific problem-solving strategy, which requires analysing established aspects of a problem and recognising the more obscure or secondary variables that relate to a problem’s circumstances. The goal of developing products by observing how consumers communicate with them and exploring the environments under which they work is at the core of Design Thinking. Design Thinking provides us with a way to dig a bit deeper to uncover ways to enhance user experiences.
